Where we are going?

Our uniform cultivates a culture that is neat, orderly, and honors God in how we dress. Everyday clothes are a matter of color, not a specific product—any French Toast polo, shirt, sweater, pant, short, or skirt in our colors works. Dress days are the exception: buy the exact items linked. Shoes, socks, and belts you buy wherever you like.

Dress days

Please buy exactly these items. If you already have dress-day items from past years, keep wearing them until they're outgrown, then replace them with the item linked here. In grades K–6, wear a white tank under the blouse.

Everyday

Anything from French Toast in these colors—the color is the rule, not the particular product. Skirts, skorts, and shorts as close to knee-length as possible; black, white, or navy leggings may be worn under a skirt. No hooded sweatshirts, sweatpants, or gym shorts.

Embroidery

Outerwear must be embroidered—whichever item or items you choose. Anything else you may have done if you like. We do the embroidery here at school so the logo is identical on every student. Please label each item with your child's full name in a way that won't fall off.

$13 plus tax per item

Drop-off dates are on the school calendar. If you miss one, let us know and we’ll catch your items in the next round.

Grooming & jewelry

Boys

  • A traditional boys' haircut, above the collar and neatly groomed. No coloring, unnatural look, distinctive lines, or differing lengths.
  • No chains, earrings, body-piercing jewelry, or visible tattoos.
  • A watch is the only visible jewelry. It may not make noise, have smart technology, or be cumbersome.
  • Shirts must be tucked in.

Girls

  • Hair in natural colors and feminine.
  • Hair accessories in solid navy, black, or white, or the Valor plaid, fitting the modest, conservative style of the uniform.
  • Makeup and nails natural and modest. Nail polish is allowed in classy colors fitting the uniform.
  • Earrings are allowed and must be classy and fitting to the uniform; no body-piercing jewelry.
  • A watch may not make noise, have smart technology, or be cumbersome.

A teacher may ask for a watch, hair accessory, or piece of jewelry to be removed if it becomes a distraction.

Frequently asked questions

Why do we need to buy everything from French Toast?

For uniforms to do their job, they need to be—well—uniform. Buying from a single source removes the ambiguity about what counts. That's a relief for students and families who'd otherwise be guessing in a store aisle, and a relief for our faculty, who won't have to be uniform referees.

Why embroider the outerwear?

Our uniform is our jersey. Wearing the school logo gives students a shared sense of belonging and a shared sense of responsibility for the name they're wearing.

Uniforms look nice and crisp and all of that, but they're expensive, and I'm feeling a little grumpy about it.

I get it. So let me tell you how I think about the cost of school uniforms. I don't think our uniform should cost much more than the clothes it replaces. Clothing one school-age child for a year in our part of the country—everyday clothes, coats, shoes, all of it—runs somewhere between $900 and $1,000. Our uniform runs about $150 to $300 per student, depending on their age and whether or not you're a returning family.

Questions

Our Dean of Students handles anything uniform-related. If you find something at French Toast that looks right but isn't listed here, send it over and we'll give you a straight yes or no.
